    Go see An Inconvenient Truth
That's what Al Gore told me to tell you. I went with my brother to see The Omen on Tuesday but it was sold out. So we went to see An Inconvenient Truth along with the four other people who couldn't get tickets to the Omen.

It was basically Al Gore giving a slide show presentation about global warming interspersed with footage of Al Gore putting together said slide show presentation on his laptop in various locations (in a car, in a hotel, in a car, in another hotel), along with Mr. Gore narrating his valiant struggle.

So, kind of boring, I've seen much better documentaries about global warming on public television. But I have to give it points for including a clip of the Futurama episode about global warming.

First Amendment no big deal, students say

"Yet, when told of the exact text of the First Amendment, more than one in three high school students said it goes “too far” in the rights it guarantees. Only half of the students said newspapers should be allowed to publish freely without government approval of stories."

Do you know of any songs about fall? The season I mean. The only one I could think of was Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground by the White Stripes. And that's really stretching it.

    Los estudiantes hispanoamericanos
What's up with Latin American university students? They've been stuck in the 80's for the past ten years apparently. All the pictures of students in my high school Spanish textbook looked terribly outdated then. I remember one picture vividly - it was a student with an ALF t-shirt that said "No hay problema". ALF was like ten years old even then. And now, I got a brand new Spanish book and they haven't progressed at all, fashion-wise. I would have thought they would have at least made it to the 90s.

So my brother and I were up in Seattle for a week. We were visiting relatives and while we were there we stayed with my aunt and uncle. They live in this part of Seattle called Ballard. And it's a pretty nice neighborhood except the streets there seem to have been designed for vehicles tricycle-sized or smaller. First off the streets are very narrow. Secondly they let cars park on both sides of the street. Thirdly, the streets are all two-way streets and lastly, there are no stop signs. It's insane. Look at this diagram I've drawn up (boxes marked "CAR" are parked cars.):

You'll also note the round traffic island in the middle of the crossroads. Seems like you could at least stick a stop sign or at least a yield sign there but apparently they've decided the city needs the extra square inch of grass.

Man, I am really sick of music. If I hear another verse, chorus, bridge, suite, concerto, chord, arpeggio or guitar lick it'll be too soon. I don't even want to hear rhythmic hand clapping.

Does anyone have any good web sites I could read at work? I need something that's interesting but doens't require too much concentration or anything too vulgar. I was reading this web site, The Straight Dope, which fit the bill for a while. But I've pretty much read all of it. I'm going to kill everyone at work if I don't keep my mind occupied. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hey look at this article on Courier New. You don't see many acticles about fonts and this one was interesting.

Slate actually has a lot of good articles on obscure topics. You just have to get past the articles on politics and the media.

So how about this: You go to do your laundry and there's two empty washing machines. One has a pubic hair in it, the other, a used bandaid. What do you do?

And don't think it could never happen because I faced just such a situation today.

    Current Music: A Filthy Lie
Do you guys ever lie about what your "Current Music" is? Like, maybe you're not listening to anything at the moment but you want to share a song you really like at the moment or want to show how cool you are by your taste in music. Or maybe you're embarrassed by what you're really listening to. I hope not, because that would be dishonest.

So I have a new alarm clock now. My other one no longer works. For some strange reason the buttons that you push to set and check the alarm clock became stuck in the "in" position. Weird huh?

So I have a new alarm clock. This one's analog and you just turn a knob on the back to move the alarm hand on the front. There's another knob you pull out to turn on the alarm and push in to turn it off. So now every night I spend about five minutes pushing the knob in and pulling it back out. The knob on the clock that is.

I don't think this clock's long for this world.

Have you seen Brian Wilson perform lately? It's very odd. He's got this intense yet blank Walkenesque expression and he sort of does this dance while sitting at the keyboard by waving his arms around. It's very hypnotic.

    Me checking the alarm time:

Hold down the button to display the alarm time. Clock displays 7:00 am. Stare intently at the display.

"Seven, seven, seven, seven, seven, seven, seven, seven, seven, seven, that's a seven, seven, seven, seven, seven, seven, seven, seven, seven, seven, seven, seven, seven. Zero, zero, zero, zero, zero, zero, zero, zero, zero, zero, zero, zero, that's a zero, zero, zero, zero, zero, zero, zero, zero, zero, zero. Zero, zero, zero, zero, zero, zero, zero, zero, zero, zero, zero, that's a zero, zero, zero, zero, zero, zero, zero, zero, zero, zero, zero, zero, zero, zero, zero. Seven, seven, seven, seven, that's a seven, seven, seven, seven, seven.... "

    Continue for five minutes.

Lay down. Glance at the clock.

Hold down the button to display the alarm time.

    "Seven, seven, seven, seven....."

    Repeat a couple more times.

I saw Spirited Away today. It was quite good and I highly reccomend that you all go see it as soon as possible. Though feelings of elation afterwards may be offset by the realization that your life is very bland and free of any romance, adventure or wonder.
